the alexander technique
Ease of Movement - Ease of Mind
The Alexander Technique teaches you how to relieve muscle and joint pain, improve your balance, posture and coordination, handle stress and feel at ease doing everything you need to do.

Your neck hurts from hours sitting in front of a computer, your lower back is screaming at you, there's just something wrong with your left hip.
Sound familiar? Back pain remains the #2 reason why people miss work (flu is #1). And yet, many people still struggle with finding relief.
But maybe it’s not just about finding temporary relief.
Maybe it’s about change.
Maybe it’s about becoming aware of how you coordinate yourself in all your activities and learning new ways of sitting, standing, walking…learning new ways of doing all the things you like and need to do - changing how you do what you do with the Alexander Technique.
About Me...
A certified teacher of the Alexander Technique since 1992, I trained with Missy Vineyard at the Alexander Technique School of New England. For 15 years I was a faculty member of the Brown University/Trinity Rep MFA Program for Actors and Directors where I taught the Alexander Technique in both group and private lessons. I have taught the AT and theater as a guest lecturer at Marlboro College and UMass Amherst. Over the past 30 years, I have presented workshops to singers, musicians, actors and people from all walks of life.
Here's What Students Say...
Stephen
"The best hands in the world belong to Alexander teachers. A single session provides instant relief and reduces stress; continued study unwinds bad habits of posture and movement and builds a connection to physical well-being that informs every moment of even the most difficult days. Christine is a superb Alexander teacher: her guiding hands and calm, attentive manner put her students at ease and make them feel deeply cared for. She is keenly observant, yet communicates simply and clearly - she has a great teacher’s intuitive ability to connect to each student on their own terms. Her knowledge and experience is broad and deep, matched only by her kindness and warm sense of humor."
S.E.K.
"Christine has 'team taught' voice lessons with me at Brown/Trinity, a graduate school for actors in Providence, RI.
By virtue of her keen looking, her soft spirit, her adept hands and her copious knowledge of the human body, she has helped my singers, my voice students in my studio come to their art with less tension, more openness and a freer sound.
She's helped me to re-learn the 'simple' art of walking as well as playing the piano. The changes she can evoke, priceless. A way of being in the world that is lighter."
J.M.J.
"Christine is calm, perceptive, smart and professional. She meets me where I am on any given lesson day, and teaches me to pay attention in a way that improves my general, overall ease in moving through the world as well as addressing specific goals. I always leave my lessons feeling taller, broader, deeper and freer than when I arrived.I am a professional musician. My favorite thing Christine has been doing lately is helping me to be aware of when I anticipate an action unnecessarily; she expertly guides me to notice when my muscles respond to a thought like, "Get ready to hit a high note" with unnecessary tension. Alexander Technique is, for me, all about freedom and efficiency. I am a better horn player because of my lessons with Christine!"
IRA BRYCK
"Christine is not only my talented teacher but a longtime friend. She is clearly teaching me things I should have known in my 70 years: how to sit, walk, stand, lie down, and more. I’m feeling more aware in my body, with an inspiring new perspective. I really do feel that it’s helped my meditation, and I’ve been doing that since 1975. My hip pain (surgery upcoming) has been more manageable because of her teaching. She is clear, charming, and funny. I feel lucky to have her support and perspective in my life."
